Does Planet Fitness offer a guest pass or free trial?
Planet Fitness policy also permits a club to admit a non-member who pays a day fee. The fee is set locally rather than published as one national amount. The policy says the visitor must be at least 18 and present a valid driver’s license or photo ID.
PF Black Card guest policy
A PF Black Card member may bring one guest each time the member visits. The guest access is included with the member’s plan rather than sold as a separate recurring guest membership. The member must be present, and the guest completes registration through the PF App or the club check-in process.
Adult guests must be 18 or older. A guest between ages 13 and 17 can visit when accompanied by a parent or guardian. That requirement is different from simply accompanying the Black Card member; the parent or guardian must satisfy the minor-guest rule.
| Access option | Who qualifies | Price | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| PF Black Card guest | Guest invited by an attending Black Card member | Included with member’s plan | One guest per visit; guest lacks some Black Card perks |
| Free one-day pass | Eligible non-member using a participating club | $0 | Generated through PF App or club; participation varies |
| Paid day fee | Non-member age 18+ with photo ID | Set by the club | Under-18 visitors cannot purchase it |
The guest benefit is one of the main reasons to compare the full PF Black Card membership cost with Classic rather than looking only at the monthly difference.
How the free Planet Fitness day pass works
Planet Fitness currently promotes a free one-day pass through the PF App or a participating local club. The pass lets a non-member try the gym without opening a paid membership. The official page says the pass can be used at any participating Planet Fitness location, which means availability should be checked when the pass is selected.
- Download or open the PF App.
- Create the free app account if required.
- Choose the free day-pass option and select a participating club.
- Complete the requested registration before arriving.
- Bring any identification or digital pass requested by the club.
- Review the equipment, cleanliness, peak-hour crowding and amenities before deciding whether to join.
A free day pass is most useful when you visit during the same time of day you would normally work out. A quiet mid-morning tour may not show the crowd level you will experience after work.
Planet Fitness paid day fee
A person under 18 cannot purchase a paid day pass even when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If the day-fee visitor joins that same location within 30 days, the full paid day-fee amount can be applied toward membership fees when the visitor has the valid receipt. That makes the paid visit less costly for someone who is seriously evaluating the club but does not qualify for the free pass.
What can a Planet Fitness guest use?
A Black Card guest can work out with the member, but Planet Fitness states that guests may not have access to PF Black Card perks. In practice, that means the guest should not assume access to tanning, HydroMassage, massage chairs, Total Body Enhancement or another location’s premium recovery area merely because the sponsoring member has those benefits.
Club amenities and usage rules are location-specific. Tanning is restricted to eligible PF Black Card members and is not available to non-member guests. The member and guest should also follow the local check-in, age and conduct policies.
What to check during a Planet Fitness trial visit
A day pass is more useful when it answers questions that a club tour cannot. Visit at the time you expect to train and check whether the equipment you use most is available without a long wait. Look at the free-weight area, stretching space, locker-room condition, drinking-water setup and the distance from parking or public transportation.
- Count the racks, benches or machines you expect to use during a normal workout.
- Check the crowd level during your actual planned workout time.
- Ask which amenities are included in Classic and which require PF Black Card.
- Confirm club hours for weekdays, weekends and holidays.
- Ask for the exact startup fee, annual-fee date and commitment before joining.
- Check whether free small-group fitness training fits your schedule.
The national brand structure is consistent, but the local offer and amenity list determine whether the club is a good purchase. Our Planet Fitness fee analysis explains the questions to ask before entering payment details.
When does a membership make more sense than day access?
A free trial is the obvious choice for a first visit. After that, compare the club’s paid day fee with the effective monthly membership cost. The reviewed Classic examples worked out to about $23–$24 per month during the first year before tax after startup and annual fees. A person visiting several times in one month will usually reach that amount quickly, while a traveler needing one isolated workout may prefer the local day fee.
PF Black Card should not be purchased only to provide a one-time guest visit. At national starting rates, its monthly dues are $9.99 higher than Classic before fees. The upgrade is financially easier to justify when the member will repeatedly use guest access, multiple locations or eligible recovery amenities. Use the gym cost calculator with the local checkout price to compare the options, and read the Planet Fitness cancellation deadlines before accepting a commitment.
Guest pass, free trial or paid day fee: which should you use?
When a friend or family member already has PF Black Card and will attend with you.
When you are independently evaluating a participating club before joining.
When the free pass is unavailable and you need a one-time adult visit.
When you plan repeated visits; compare the real cost in the Planet Fitness fees guide.
